Dispense Pump Provides Increased Control

MRSI has increased dispense control with the use of a closed-loop DC servo, positive displacement pump. This pump - for the dispensing of conductive epoxy - features a programmable brushless servomotor with encoder for closed loop control. Maximum material control is achieved through the built-in precision of the pump, combined with its programmability. The pump can be programmed for variable lead screw acceleration, deceleration, velocity, and indexing interval. Thus, no matter the material, the process can be optimized and reliably controlled.

Both the cartridge lining and lead screw are made of carbide for maximum durability. This allows for the use of almost any type of dispense material. The stainless-steel needles are held to extremely tight tolerances in fabrication. The design of the needles is such that material flow is enhanced by a chamfering toward the needle tip. This reduces surface tension, provides for more precise control, and also reduces clogging. The use of this pump is the latest development by MRSI, which is committed to providing its customers with the ultimate control of epoxy dispense for small dots, lines, and area fills.

MRSI-505 PHOTONICS Provides Automated Solutions

MRSI-505 PHOTONICS in Production.
The MRSI-505 PHOTONICS was introduced at the Optical Fiber Communications Conference (OFC) in Anaheim, CA. The new MRSI-505 PHOTONICS, Optical Assembly Work Cell, is specifically designed for optical applications required for telecommunications and data communications.

The MRSI-505 PHOTONICS can be configured for several component-attach technologies and applications including epoxy die attach, eutectic, and flip chip bonding. Typical applications include transmitters, receivers, switches, amplifiers, filters, photo detectors, laser submounts, and tunable devices.

Unique capabilities include a heated assembly station with fast closed-loop temperature ramping. The system is available with in-situ eutectic bonding performed either on a hotplate, directly in a boat or in a chamber. The system routinely places small delicate InP and GaAs die with delicate surface features and picks and places small thin preforms.

In making the announcement, Daniel Crowley, Vice President Sales, stated "The Optoelectronics market - driven by the Telecom revolution - has a lot of growth potential. It's not just time-to-market that counts, but also time-to-volume production. Because the MRSI-505 PHOTONICS has the flexibility needed to handle both current and future products, short product cycles are no longer a problem, giving manufacturers the edge they need to meet their production goals, no matter how challenging."

The system has been very well received by the optical industry since the introduction and has been placed into production at a number of industry leading companies.

MRSI Unveils MRSI-5005 OPTO at SEMICON West

MRSI is coming out of "stealth mode"! MRSI will unveil the new MRSI-5005 OPTO at the SEMICON West show, July 18-20, 2001, in the McEnery Hall, San Jose Convention Center, San Jose, CA. The MRSI-5005 OPTO is a remarkable new system that provides the accuracy required for assembling optical components such as laser submounts. It combines high-speed eutectic bonding with 5 micron capability to satisfy the most demanding automation needs.

MRSI's booth - #11238 - will also display the MRSI-505 PHOTONICS and the MRSI-175Ag. These units will be operating for demos.

Specifically designed for precision conductive epoxy dispense, the MRSI-175Ag is the appropriate work cell for microwave, optical and multi-chip modules, micro-electro-mechanical systems, hybrid circuits and semiconductor packaging.

The MRSI-505 PHOTONICS offers advanced vision and fully-automatic operation. The system is specifically designed and configured for optical applications required for telecommunications, data communications and image capture and projection.

MRSI will be demonstrating its equipment during the show hours, so be sure to stop by to see the new equipment in operation and to get your questions answered!

Full Application and Demonstration Facility Up and Running at MRSI Netherlands HQ.

Training in Office
MRSI Europe's customers benefit from a fully-equipped lab for applications and demonstrations with the MRSI-505 and the MRSI-175Ag. The rapidly-growing European markets for telecommunications, data communications, medical, automotive and aerospace led MRSI to open its own office in the Netherlands in 1997. MRSI's European Headquarters is located 20 minutes from Amsterdam's Schiphol International Airport, with direct connections to all major European cities. This strategic location helps us provide better support to all our customers.

MRSI Europe has an excellent team of highly qualified and professionally trained Customer Support Engineers. Because all of our European staff have experience in interconnect technologies, including epoxy die attach, flip chip and eutectic bonding, they are able to provide all MRSI's customers with speed, efficiency and professionalism.

In the Demonstration Suite, MRSI engineers have the ability to demonstrate and use a fully equipped high precision die bonder and the newest technology in high precision dispense systems. The Training Department also utilizes this equipment for customer training sessions.

Additionally, they are able to develop, test and run simulation programs to help customers optimize production or test customer processes before they are implemented as a manufacturing process.

Frequently, MRSI Europe offers training for various customer needs such as operators, applications, and maintenance. This training is available in all major European languages (French, German, Italian, English and Spanish). Plus, MRSI Europe offers On-Site application support, fast production ramp up programs and full training support. Contact MRSI Europe at: sales@mrsieurope.nl

Microwave Applications - The Full Spectrum

Microwave applications continue to grow across the range of technologies and applications. The MRSI's systems are considered the industry standard for ultra-precise, high speed component assembly around the world and across the spectrum. Some application examples of how microwave technology is used include:

Collision Avoidance Systems: Used for passenger vehicles, busses and trucks, this field is expected to grow dramatically in the next few years.

Commercial Satellite Communications: Direct to home television broadcasts, home broadband connections via satellite, satellite music broadcasts to automobiles are increasing demand for resources and hardware.

Military: The present administration has called for a generation leapfrog in technology. Battlefield management, communications, missile control and detection all are expected to see tremendous growth.

Wireless Communications: Continued advances in communications technologies will call for increased production of new units.

MRSI Employees Discover Benefits of 'Art of Living' Program

Participating in the "Art of Living" course at MRSI

During the first weekend of May, MRSI employees had the chance to attend the "Art of Living" course offered by Rajshree and Philip on the premises of MRSI. This four-day seminar, provided by two famous instructors, gave participants the ability to reach inside themselves and also provided them the necessary tools to achieve a healthy, relaxed and joyous life. This program is taught in over 100 countries. Millions of people around the world have experienced physical and emotional healing from these programs, which eliminate stress and create a sense of belonging.

The Sudarshan Kriya and other related techniques taught are based on ancient knowledge from the Yogic Science of the Breath. These techniques explore the connection between the mind, body, emotions, and the rhythms of breath; they are designed to eliminate stress and toxins from the body and bring one to a greater understanding of one's self. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is the founder of the Art of Living Foundation, which is a nonprofit educational and charitable organization. Their basic course is also taught to employees of the United Nations, the World Health Organization and Fortune 500 companies. MRSI attendees expressed great appreciation for having had this opportunity.
